In our project room this summer sixspace presents Storm Withstanders by Los Angeles artist Matt Haber. In his first solo project at sixspace Haber shows new acrylic on panel and paper works that explores the idea of occurrences and disasters, internal and external, which navigate where his characters are going. Designed similar to a play, Storm Withstanders acts as a stage upon which his characters act out struggle and strife, enchantment and exploration and the plight of the universe. Hinting of a war, the females have a tendency to be more noble and valiant, where the male characters become more preoccupied with thievery, occupation rights, and drunken debauchery. The rest of his cast serve as supporting characters for the films that his females always seem to be shooting. Continue reading >>
