Kirsten Ulve and Fafi :: Girls, Girls, Girls
June 7 – July 12, 2003

In keeping with sixspace’s mission to exhibit and introduce emerging talent, the gallery is pleased to announce Girls, Girls, Girls: the first Los Angeles showing of artists Kirsten Ulve and Fafi. While both artists maintain her distinct style, their work shares a hot, stylish, and hip sensibility. The exhibition title celebrates female artists who display a definite amount of feminine charm.

Girls, Girls, Girls is a significant exhibition for both artists. It marks New York based artist Kirsten Ulve’s first U.S. gallery exhibition and will present significant large-scale digital works on canvas for the first time. Ulve is premiering fifteen works ranging on a large scale that will utilize the preciseness of graphic design she has as an Illustrator. It is also the west coast debut exhibition for French graffiti artist Fafi. With a feminine touch, Fafi is a rising force on the graffiti scene. For this exhibition she will present new drawings, paintings, and wall projects of her socially and sexually liberated girls.

Kirsten Ulve is an Illustrator who lives and works in New York. Since 1996 she has worked everything from fashion illustration to caricatures, animated commercials to advertising art, and editorial illustration to product embellishment. Her clients include Entertainment Weekly, Rolling Stone, Cosmogirl, the Village Voice, Mattel, Hasbro, Deliah’s, Annabelle Magazine (Switzerland), Sky Magazine (United Kingdom), and Palty Beauty Products (Japan). In 2002 she exhibited her work at the CWC Gallery in Japan. Her work will be seen in an animated television commercial for the game UNO, a stationery set and journal, and in an April exhibition at the New York Museum of Comic and Cartoon, Duck.

Fafi is a well-known graffiti artist from Toulouse who, in addition to displaying her contemporary girls on public walls, is also comfortable placing them in galleries, stylish clothing, album covers, and as 3D sculptural models. She as been in countless French, Japanese, and American magazines such as Nylon, Dish, Warp, and L’Express. In the past three years Fafi has exhibited her work in Japan, New York, and Paris, most recently at Heartgalerie in December 2002.
