(lives Goodyear, Arizona) Carrie Marill is interested in how "urban" and "natural" environments affect human beings. Her work investigates what happens within the restrictions of a simulated reality. How do we determine our "selfness" in environments that are so much the same? What happens to people when all the homes look the same, when all the food is treated the same way, is this idea of "sameness" gotten to the point of comfort in our society? In todays society, a majority of the population's existence is structured by monotony. From tract home communities to chain restaurants, the cessation of individuality seems imminent. By isolating and composing these types of environments, Carrie Marill investigates how the perception of life is shaped by our surroundings, and questions the affect of societal sameness.
