About us

sixspace --written as one word, all lowercase --

sixspace is a contemporary art gallery located on Washington Blvd. in the thriving Culver City art district. The gallery began in Chicago (1998-2000) as an emerging artist exhibition project space while Owner/Director Caryn Coleman worked at the Museum of Contemporary Art. Since relocating to Los Angeles in 2002, sixspace has been continuing our mission to exhibit emerging artists, regional, national and international, working in a variety of mediums who are truly pushing artistic and conceptual boundaries. Our intent is to foster new influential contemporary art while simultaneously building our artists' careers by exposing them to collectors, curators, and writers on an international basis. Co-owned by Caryn Coleman and Sean Bonner, the gallery program consists of eight solo exhibitions and one group exhibition per year, showing represented gallery artists and introducing new artists to the community. Additionally, the gallery produces shows under our curatorial venture "sixspace projects" about once a year. Sixspace has also participated in selected art fairs including Chicago's Stray Show (2003, 2004), the new Los Angeles-based contemporary fair artLA (2005), Aqua Art Fair in Miami (2005), and Pulse, New York (2006).

Articles on the gallery, exhibitions, and artists have been featured in Art In America, Los Angeles Times, LA Weekly, Artweek, Art Review, Frieze, New York Times, Harpers, Flaunt Magazine, Wired, New York Post, Artkrush, MTV.com, Los Angeles Alternative Press, Los Angeles Downtown News, Anthem Magazine, Gallery Guide International, Pasadena Weekly, XLR8R Magazine, Los Angeles Daily Journal, Long Beach Press Telegram, Juxtapoz Magazine, Thrasher Magazine, People, US Weekly, Arkansas Times, Modart Magazine, Staf Magazine, and Artnet Magazine.
